Maumoon confident of win

DRP presidential candidate President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said he is very confident of a comfortable win in Tuesday's run-off election. He said from the campaign visits he has just completed to the islands, he has felt the sweet taste of success due to the rousing support he and his running made Ahmed Thasmeen Ali have received from the people. DRP leader was speaking at the closing rally of the party campaign under the theme " Nation want Maumoon" before Tuesday's election held at artificial beach last night in heavy rain. He said the gathering of such a large crowd in heavy rain was a testimony of the huge support he enjoys from the people despite mounting verbal attacks and false accusations by the opposition. Mr. Gayoom said he was very confident of victory for the nation and, if he is elected to a new term he will bring unprecedented reform and greater heights of development to the country. He and DRP has the competence and experiencie to realise the hopes and aspirations of the people. Gayoom said even after winning the election,he and his government will not have any personal prejudice against any candidates or the MDP alliance which are contesting against him, whether it is Gasim Ibrahim or Hassan Saeed or his main contender Mohamed Nasheed. DRP leader said he looks forward to a time of unity and reconciliation in his new term. Gayoom further said he will always be with the people at their service, in times of difficulties, sorrow and happiness which he said is the duty of the person leading the country. A leader shall not run away from crisis and difficulties and leaders must not indulge in undermining the peace and security of the country. Gayoom said he will never leave the reigns of the country to such people. DRP leader went on to say the person who was competing with him in the run-off election does not have any capabilities worthy of the leader of a country and as we draw near the election day, his competitor's capacity and level is being exposed. Therefore Gayoom is very confident of securing a good majority and lead the country to newer heights of progress and prosperity as aspired by the people, he said. DRP's running mate Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and council member Azima Shukoor also spoke in the rally elaborating on the acievements under Gayoom's leadership and about the incapabilities and weaknesses of the MDP alliance candidate. A large number of celebrities and leading personalities from the entertainment industry also participated in the rally and they expressed their support to the DRP leader in the election. Miadhu News
